Additional interventions will be provided by Campania Region for the enhancement of the airport access infrastructures, such as the connection with the motorway and the extension of Salerno metro to the airport.
The infrastructural works of the new Salerno airport are the result of a complex group of investments that are divided into several phases connected and overlapping.
In July 2020, the first works of clearing war weapons began, followed by the construction of the new runway, completed in February 2024, 2,000 meters long and equipped with modern and effective light signaling systems. In January 2022, the design of the so-called Phase 2 was assigned, which includes, among other works, the construction of the new passenger terminal, the second extension of the runway up to 2,200 meters, scheduled in 2025, parking and access areas to the airport.
Moreover, in 2025, a Terminal for the general aviation will be realised that, during the construction of the new terminal for commercial aviation, will be used both for general and commercial aviation flights.
The project of the works has been assigned, through international tender procedure, to a group of companies led by the multinational company Deerns, along with Atelier(s) Alfonso Femia, Od’A Officina d’architettura, Planeground, Techproject, Sun Flower Engineering, which has a consolidated experience in the field of airport design around the world, and has been involved, among others, in the enhancement of Amsterdam Schiphol, Abu Dhabi and Kuwait City airports.
The new Terminal, once completed, will extend over an area of about 16thousand square meters and will reflect the highest environmental standards both for energy efficiency and for the use of natural and sustainable materials, and will be equipped with a photovoltaic system to reduce emissions of CO2.
The combined and integrated management, by GESAC, of the two airports: Naples Capodichino and Salerno Costa-d'Amalfi, will give an important, further boost to tourism and the economy of the Campania region.
